“A disturbing truth that has been withheld from the world is the fact Eighteen U.S. war veterans kill themselves every day. One thousand former U.S. soldiers receiving care from the Department of Veterans Affairs attempt suicide every month. More veterans are committing suicide than are dying in combat overseas.”(Aaron Glantz, writing for Foreign Policy in Focus, “The Truth About Veteran Suicides”, May 9th, 2008)
This truth about suicides was brought to the public in a class action lawsuit by Veterans for Common Sense and Veterans United for Truth on behalf of 1.7 million Americans who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan. The two groups allege the Department of Veterans Affairs has systematically denied mental health care and disability benefits to veterans returning from war zones.
Key question: Will President Obama appoint a Special Prosecutor to investigate the many crimes of the Bush Administration?
