Up coming Peace Events March 15th - March 26th

Saturday, March 15, 2008 "Legislators Listen" Big Island State Legislators will be holding community meetings on the Big Island. Please attend and speak out. Urge Immediate action to stop the spread of radiation contamination at the military's 133,000-acre Pohakuloa Training Area (PTA) in the center of Hawaii Island. All live-fire and aerial bombings of the entire Pohakuloa range should be immediately stopped until a thorough, objective and independent survey has been funded (via the military budget) and completed, in order to assure real public safety. If you can't make the meetings call the State legislators toll free 974-4000. Call Mayor Kim 961-8211, Council members 961-8225, Hawaii's congressional delegation: Sen Akaka 935-1114, Sen. Inouye 935-0844, Rep. Hirono 935-3756. Also please question all candidates running for office on their positions regarding military radiation contamination at PTA, a halt to live-fire and bombing, cancelling the State lease at PTA, and independent health surveys to assure public safety.

Picket of local churches/temples with signs "War is Sin", "Repent" and "Stop the War"

The plan is to hold signs and leaflet in front of 5-6 churches in Hilo between 8 and 11:30AM Sunday morning. Meet 7:15AM downtown Hilo Post Office/Federal Building. The schedule has yet to be firmed up but will likely include

Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin 398 Kilauea Ave. meet at 8:45am, Haili Church 211 Haili St. meet at 10:45 and across the street from Haili Church is St. Joe's church, meet at 11:15. There will be additional churches. Call Jim Albertini Sat. afternoon 966-7622 for more details.

Saturday, March 22nd Malu Aina Peace Farm (in Kurtistown) volunteer day 9-12 with pot luck at noon.

Come, tour the farm and lend a hand planting taro, etc. Each according to ability Call 966-7622 for directions.

Wed. March 26th If Mayor Kim and other officials still refuse to call for a halt to all live-fire and bombing, etc. at PTA we plan a protest at various offices on this day.. Times and places to be determined, but it is likely to start at 8AM at the County Council offices in the Hilo Ben Franklin Bldg.
