"The War On Terrorism Is A Sham!"
Retired Professor, historian and author, Howard Zinn, in a recent lecture at Boston University called on Americans to "withdraw our obedience from our government" in response to what he says is government lies and deception in modern wars. Zinn said, "The war on terrorism is a sham. Terrorism is an idea that exists all over. You can't make war on it. If terrorism is the killing of innocent people for some presumed important purpose, then making war on people is terrorism. War is terrorism." Zinn said a non-violent peoples' movement lead revolution is the only option Americans have to bring about change.
Zinn said look to history. Government hype must be combated with a discussion of history. The study of the history of government deception in wartime needs a closer look. Do not be fooled by things you hear from the White House or Congress. Zinn said, "What's being told is that we are fighting in Iraq for democracy. We are occupying in order to bring democracy and freedom to the Iraqi people," he said. "If you look at the history of American occupations, look at the history of U.S. interventions in other parts of the world - where have we brought democracy? There's no evidence of America bringing democracy to the countries that we occupy." See http://www.commondreams.org/archive/2007/11/07/5083/

The U.S. is spending a lot of money on militarism. For fiscal year 2008, we are looking at
a "base military budget" of $520 billion and another $127.5 billion in war spending, which means that total military spending will hit $647.5 billion. That's a lot of money taken from education, health care, the environment, etc. and a major contributing factor to the growing huge U.S. national debt being put on the backs of future generations. See http://www.commondreams.org/archive/2007/11/06/5059/
The total costs of the Iraq war mount, even by a conservative estimate, to at least $2 trillion. To which one needs to add these words: SO FAR... See http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/features/2007/12/bush200712?currentPage=1
