SUPERFERRY ACTION

OK--at 3 PM Thursday, we'll meet outside the front entrance of the Hilo State Building, 75 Aupuni St., Hilo.

Try to bring a letter to read (or at least deliver) to the Governor's Liason office staff. See letter and press release below.

Our heartfelt but respectful message: NO SPECIAL LEGISLATIVE SESSION FOR SUPERFERRY.

I'll bring signs--EIS FIRST, NO SPECIAL LEG. SESSION, GOT WHALE STRIKES? etc.

We may also sign-wave outside afterwards.

Parking at State building--expensive, or Aupuni Center--free, across from Long's Drugs.

Remember--demonstrate with aloha!

thanks, Cory 968-8965

PRESS RELEASE

October 10, 2007, Hilo, Hawai'i--A "No Special Legislative Session for Superferry" event is planned for 3 PM Thursday, October 11, at the Governor's Liason office at the Hilo State building, 75 Aupuni Street, Hilo. Concerned citizens opposing the special session will deliver letters for the governor. "What a disturbing precedent--changing state law to bail out a business that gambled with our tax dollars and lost," said spokesperson Cory Harden. "A launch before environmental studies is putting the cart before the horse," she said. She added, "The court just ruled that Superferry threatens whales and native species--and the news reveals plans for five Superferry vessels in all." *

* "A second Superferry under construction is scheduled to service the Big Island in early 2009. The company has said it plans to build three more". Hawaii Ferry Halted for Environment Study, http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/10/us/10ferry.html?ref=us

TWO SUPERFERRY ACTIONS

1-EVENT THURSDAY OCTOBER 11 IN HILO

"EIS FIRST/ NO SPECIAL LEGISLATIVE SESSION"

Tentatively set for Thursday afternoon, October 11, in Hilo. If it's a go I'll send out time & place. We don't know how court decisions, etc. will turn out, but we do know Lingle and Superferry will try all angles!

2-LETTER TO LEGISLATORS--sample

reps@capitol.hawaii.gov, sens@capitol.hawaii.gov

Aloha Legislators,

Please don't single out Superferry for a special Legislative session.

Please don't sacrifice whales, native species, natural resources, and island lifestyles for private business and the few who can afford ferry tickets.

Please don't set the dangerous precedent of changing laws for our entire state to bail out a single business--that risked our tax dollars, and lost.

Please don't gamble on our environment with rushed decisions. Wait for the regular legislative session in January, when we have time for extensive public input and thoughtful consideration.

Mahalo for your attention to my concerns.
