Aloha Peace Ohana,
YOUR VOICE IS NEEDED!
Please come and testify at the Stryker hearings: See below for time, place and dates.
The format for these hearings is diffrent from past meetings/hearings. After a one hour open house (science fair display) type gathering, people will be invited to comment (limit of three minutes) on each of five chapters of the draft EIS and testify with general comments after testimony is taken on the five chapters. It appears therefore that people will be able to make more than a three minute statement if you comment in more than 1 chapter and make a general comment. Some people may choose to testify in all five chapters and make a general statement. Others may simply want to testify in one chapter or make a general statement. The meetings are set to conclude by 9:45 but I'm not sure what will happen if there are still people wanting to testify. The Army should extend the hearings to accomodate all.
The five chapter headings appear as follows:
1. Purpose, Need, and Scope of a Stryker Brigade
2. Description of the Proposed Action and Alternatives to Hawaii as a location (Alaska, Colorado, No action)
3. Affected Environment ---geology, water, wildlife, cultural resources, land use, traffic, socioeconomics, environmental justice, hazardous materials, biological resources, air quality, noise, etc.
4. Impact Methodolgy --direct, indirect, short/long term, measure, cumulative, magnitude, etc.
5. Environmental consequences to locations for a Stryker Brigade: Hawaii, Alaska, Colorado, no action
***************************************************
The Stryker Brigade will include hundreds of 19-ton eight-wheeled tanks and several thousand troops based on Oahu but due to train at Pohakuloa (PTA) on Hawaii Island. The public comment period, which began July 20, will end Oct. 30. Speak up! Put your protest of Stryker on the record!
