Call for action at the Board of Regents meeting UH Hilo campus on Sept 27th and 28th.

The UARC (University Affiliated Research Center), a classified Navy research lab, has resurfaced after two years in hiding. It centers on the missile defense and other high tech military warfare programs mostly on Kaua'i, but also Maui, Hawai'i and O'ahu. We expect that the contract will be voted on by the UH Board of Regents at its September 27 and 28 meeting in Hilo.  It is important for you to add your protest – this is not the appropriate role of our University to assist the military in secret research.

For more info on the UARC go to:   The Board of Regents agenda will not be finalized until Friday 9/21 after noon. Please check with the BOR website: http://

Also, since the meeting will be in Hilo, folks from other islands will not have an opportunity to testify in person. You may want to contact the regent from your island to find out their position and persuade them to reject the UARC. The BOR roster is here:

Also, since the BOR is now controlled by Lingle appointees, it would be good to put pressure on the Governor.  Call 974-6262.  The UARC is another attack on Hawai'i by the war machine of the US. Let's stop it before it gets a foothold in Hawai'i. Demands are:

1. That the BOR and President McClain cancel the UARC proposal

2. Full disclosure and accounting of all past and present military related programs in the UH system including a list of secret programs conducted under the RCUH  Mahalo!

Military Clean Up NOT Build Up!

The U.S. has 57 known present and former military sites, including a land area of 250,000 acres (9 Kaho`olawes in size) on Hawaii Island littered with unexploded bombs and military toxins.  (See a map on the website listed below.  This is one reason we must resist further military desruction in Hawaii.)

1.  Mourn all victims of violence. 2  Reject war as a solution. 3. Defend civil liberties. 4. Oppose all discrimination: anti-Islamic, anti-Semitic, etc. 5. Seek peace through justice in Hawai`i and around the world.
