"There will be a 'Mothers & Others Against the War' sign-holding and walk for peace in Hilo on Saturday, May 12, 2007 from 9 -11 am," said Galen Kelly of Malu `Aina, sponsor of the event.  Kelly said "the meeting place is across the street from the Hilo farmers market for one hour of sign-holding followed by the peace walk along Kamehameha Ave."

Kelly quotes the words of Julia Ward Howe, 1870, from 'The proclamation & Goals of the Original Mother's Day:  "Our husbands will not come to us, reeking with carnage, for caresses and applause.  Our sons shall not be taken from us to unlearn all that we have been able to teach them of charity, mercy and patience.  From the bosom of a devastated earth a voice goes up with our own.  It says: "Disarm! Disarm!  The sword of murder is not the balance of justice." Whereby the great human family can live in peace..."

Kelly extends an open invitation for all to join in this witness for peace: mothers and others, entire families and people of all ages. She emphasized "your presence is important and needed.  Please join us in standing up for peace and ending the atrocity of war."
