TO: Senator Rosalynn Baker, Chair, Senate Ways and Means Committee. Testimony in support of HB 1452 SD1 Hearing March 29, 2007 in Room 211 9:30a.m. Please make requisite number of copies.

TALKING POINTS YOU MIGHT WANT TO USE (cut & paste, if you want):

*I am writing in support of HB1452, HD1, SD1.

*Depleted Uranium presents serious toxic hazards, not only to our soldiers but to our state's civilian citizens and our environment.

*DU causes cancers, miscarriages, birth defects, and if ingested, heavy metal poisoning. According to experts, much of Iraq and Afghanistan have been contaminated with this radioactive heavy metal, creating a need to test our returning soldiers for exposure.

*DU has been found at Schofield Barracks and may also have been fired at Pohakuoa Training Area and on Kaho'olawe Island and other sites. The state has a duty to find out about the presence of DU in our environment and to take action to protect its citizens.

*We need monitoring and safe clean up of all DU in Hawaii.

*We must not tolerate having any depleted uranium in our environment nor allow our Hawaii soldiers or citizens to be exposed to DU.
